Man seriously injured in attack

A man is in hospital after being attacked by a group of up to six men, one of them carrying a cricket or baseball bat.

The attack took place during Thursday evening close to shops on the corner of Lancaster Road and Park Road in Rugby, Warwickshire.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

The attackers are thought to have scattered and run off and police are appealing for witnesses.

The victim's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
