Pupils and driver hurt in crash

Eight children and a driver were injured when their coach was involved in a collision with a lorry in Warwickshire.

The children, aged between nine and 11, were part of a group of 43 travelling back from a theme park when the accident happened on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the A429 Barford Road, near junction 15 of the M40, at about 1650 BST.

Five of the youngsters suffered back and neck injuries.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the pupils from Shipston Primary School , Shipston-on-Stour, had been travelling back home after a day out at Drayton Manor Park.

He said the coach had been severely damaged at the back and the lorry was damaged at its front.

Five children were taken to Warwick Hospital where they were treated for multiple injuries, mostly neck and back pain.

Three other pupils were treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to the same hospital. The coach driver, believed to be in his 50s, suffered back injuries and was taken to hospital.

The spokesman added that all the other children and adults on board the coach were checked over at the scene by ambulance crews.

The lorry driver was not injured.
