Soil plant sends councils to war

Proposed site for the plant
Thousands of people have signed a petition against the plant

Rival councils are at loggerheads after one gave the go-ahead to build a controversial soil treatment plant.

Warwickshire County Council granted permission last month for TCSR's proposals for a plant in Nuneaton.

But at an emergency meeting Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council agreed to continue opposing the plans and to seek a judicial review if necessary.

TCSR will still need an Environment Agency licence before work can start on the plant.

The Environment Agency has it had no objections to the plant in principle.

However, campaigners fighting against the plans said they feared the plant will pollute the environment and bring heavy traffic.

Thousands of people have signed a petition over the issue, but the county council has said it was satisfied there would be no issues over safety.
