Lawn row residents claim victory

Driveway in Daimler Green
Council officials had said the residents had broken planning rules

Residents say council officials have backed down on plans to force them to dig up their driveways.

Thirty-five home owners in Daimler Green, Coventry, were told last year they had broken planning rules by paving over their lawns.

The council said the area was intended to have as much green space as possible and it was in talks with residents.

But residents said officials had told them they could plant shrubs and hedges to make up for the loss of the lawns.

They said they had received letters asking them to put in the plants.

However, they said they were complaining to the council over the extra costs it would mean for them.

A city council spokeswoman said talks were still ongoing between the authority and the residents.
