Bar joins arcade firms to close

The owner of a bar that is set to close in Coventry believes a new road layout has partly hit trade.

The Liquid Cafe Wine Bar closes on Saturday night after three years in the City Arcade, which has seen three other firms close this week.

The bar owner Barrington Kenion said a new road layout since Ikea opened in December had "substantially hit trade", but was among many factors.

He added he was "optimistic" he could raise money to pay arrears and reopen.

Mr Kenion who runs the bar with his wife, said they were disappointed.

"We have a beautiful bar here. It's like a social club and we've met some fantastic people," he said.

"When they are in this bar they feel like they are abroad on holiday, because of the music we play."

The bar won the lifestyle category of the Godiva Awards in 2006.

He said on-going road works and high rents had contributed to falling trade and cash problems for traders in the area.
