Detectives are trying to trace a "potentially dangerous" suspected paedophile who disappeared from his home in Warwickshire nearly a year ago.

Brian Hughes, 63, of Overslade, Rugby, is wanted in connection to a number of incidents which happened over a 40-year-old period, police said.

Officers said Mr Hughes, a builder, went missing in July last year when the alleged abuse came to light.

They said Mr Hughes left a note for his family "apologising for what happened".

He is also believed to have sent a blank Christmas card to his family.

Warwickshire Police urged people not to approach him but to contact police.

Casual clothes

Peter Herring, of Warwickshire Police, said Mr Hughes could be "a danger to the community and needs to be found".

A force spokesperson said Mr Hughes was slim, with blue eyes and was last seen with short dark brown hair.

They said he tended to wear casual clothes and was taking tablets for high blood pressure.

Detectives believe he could be anywhere in Britain, but he is known to have visited Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon in the past.
