College presses ahead with plans

Governors at a Warwickshire college say they want to press ahead with plans to merge with another college despite council chiefs' opposition.

North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and King Edward VI College had proposed creating a £60m "education quarter" in Nuneaton town centre.

However, the county council's cabinet said it could not commit to the plan while an education review was ongoing.

Governors at King Edward said they were determined not to give up.

Stuart Hall, chair of governors at the college, said they were considering alternatives to the plan at the moment.

Under the original plans the colleges said they planned a development which they said would be "wonderful opportunity" for young people in the town.

The review of secondary education is considering a number of options, which include closing one secondary school, merging two others and investing in new school buildings across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

The review will finish in July.
