Probe after arrested man's death

Police officers are to be investigated after a man died in a Warwickshire police cell.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been called in to look into the death of 42-year-old Sean Walsh from Nuneaton.

The IPCC said Mr Walsh was arrested in connection to a theft on 1 May but was held overnight as it appeared he was too drunk to be questioned.

The following morning he fell in the cell and later died in hospital.

Warwickshire Police then referred the matter to the IPCC.

IPCC Commissioner John Crawley said: "Our investigation will examine Mr Walsh's time in custody in detail, including how Warwickshire Police cared for Mr Walsh and whether they met their overall duty of care to him."
