Bug is found on hospital's wards

A strain of an antibiotic-resistant bug has been found at Coventry's University Hospital, health chiefs have confirmed.

The bug, commonly known as MRAB, was discovered on four patients, which led to one ward being closed to new admissions.

The hospital says it has now contained the bug.

Its medical director Dr Richard Kennedy said the bug was not dangerous and hospital staff had dealt with it quickly.

MRAB, or Multi-Resistant Acinetobacter Baumannii, only affects people who are already sick.

People who are most susceptible to the bug are those in intensive care and on antibiotics for other infections.
