Post union hopeful over closure
Union leaders have not given up hope of persuading Royal Mail to keep postal sorting in Coventry once the Bishop Street office closes in the spring.

The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) said it had put forward alternative plans to managers.

The CWU and city council officers met managers on Friday to discuss the proposals.

Royal Mail has said it plans to move sorting operations to Northampton, although a site has not yet been found.

About 600 people work in the Coventry sorting office.

Des Arthur, from the CWU, said there was little agreement but he was hopeful progress would be made.

He said: "We've put forward options for them which they really have got to give strong consideration to.

"It's very rare that this type of change takes place without any form of disruption."
