Man shot in leg by armed robbers
A shop worker has been shot by armed robbers during an incident at a supermarket in Warwickshire.

The victim, thought to be in his 30s, was shot as he tried to chase three armed men who tried to rob a security guard refilling a cash machine.

The incident took place at SK Supermarket in Arbury Road, Nuneaton, during Saturday morning.

The shot man has been taken to University Hospital in Coventry where his condition was described as stable.

'Number of shots'

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said three masked men smashed their way into a secure area of the store shortly after 1000 BST where the security officer was refilling the machine.

One of the men had a hand gun and another had a crow bar.

A fourth man was waiting outside in a black car, possibly a Saab, with darkened windows.

"A male member of staff from the store gave chase and managed to smash the rear window of the Saab.

"One of the men in the car then fired a number of gun shots, one of which hit the staff member in the leg," the police spokesman said.

The car drove off towards Heath End Road.

A Saab car was found burned out on Bermuda Road a short time later. Four men were seen running from it and got into a silver coloured car, possibly an Audi.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
