More than 300 people have contacted police with information over the murder of a biker who was shot on the M40.

Gerard Tobin, 35, from Mottingham, south London, was riding back from a motorbike festival when he was shot through the back of the head.

Detectives said he was followed by a green Rover car with two or three people inside, in "planned attack" on the motorway near Leamington Spa.

Police are asking motorists who took mobile phone pictures to contact them.

Detectives also want mobile phone video footage of the scene to be sent to them.

More than 100 callers contacted Warwickshire Police's incident room after detectives made an appeal for information on Tuesday afternoon.

Since the incident, more than 300 people from all over the UK have called.

Det Supt Ken Lawrence, of Warwickshire Police, said: "We would like motorists who may have taken mobile telephone images to send us those images.

"They may have captured a vital piece of information to assist the investigation."

He also appealed for anyone with information about the car to contact police.

"I need further witnesses to this car," Det Supt Lawrence said.

"Did anyone see it during the course of the Bulldog Bash event? Did anyone see it leave the motorway further south on the M40?"

The Bulldog Bash motorcycle festival is held at Long Marston airfield, near Stratford-on-Avon.

Mr Tobin, a Canadian who had lived in the UK for 10 years, was travelling with two friends down the A46 towards the M40 roundabout after attending the event.

Police said a green Rover 600 series car pulled out of a lay-by and started following them.

Several miles after joining the motorway, the car overtook two of the three motorcycles and shots were fired at Mr Tobin.

One hit Mr Tobin on his head just below his helmet and he fell from his bike, which careered down the road for up to 200 yards before veering off the carriageway.

Police have said biker gangs are a "strong line of inquiry" in the investigation and that it was a planned attack.
