City's sorting office to relocate
Coventry sorting office
The sorting office in Coventry will close
Royal Mail says Northamptonshire is its preferred choice for a new mail centre when it close Coventry's main sorting office and transfers work.

Campaigners had organised a 16,000- signature petition against the £70m relocation plans for the Bishop Street office, which employs 1,000 people.

But the company said it would build two new delivery offices in the north and south of city securing 450 jobs.

A spokesman said the new site would serve Coventry. It is not yet known how

many jobs will be lost.

Some staff are expected to stay within the Royal Mail group.
