The grant will benefits the new and ruined cathedrals
Coventry's cathedrals have been given a grant of £84,000 from English Heritage for vital restoration work.

A total of £66,000 has been given to stop water leaking in to the basement of the new cathedral, built after the original building was bombed in 1940.

A second grant of £16,000 will be used to replace leading in the stain glass windows of St Michael's tower in the ruined cathedral.

A spokeswoman for English Heritage said the work should begin later this year.

"In the new cathedral this is essential work which will prevent potential damage to the structure of the building," said the spokeswoman.

The money is part of a programme of grant worth £1.6m given to 24 cathedrals across the UK funded by English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation.
