A blacksmith will provide training at the site

People have had their last chance to visit a wheelwright's and blacksmith's workshop, which won a BBC restoration show, before all artefacts are removed.

Chedham's Yard in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, won BBC Two's Restoration Village after viewers voted that it should be restored to its former glory.

The 19th Century workshop will receive a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and become a museum.

The Friends of Chedham's Yard support group held an open day on Sunday.

Rural buildings

The family business stopped when Bill Chedham walked away and locked the door in the 1970s.

It remains one of only a few complete examples of the wheelwright's craft, Warwickshire County Council said.

The workshop will now be turned into a working museum complete with a blacksmith to provide training and education.

Chedham's Yard topped the BBC poll of eight finalists from around the country, which included a Methodist chapel, a Georgian watermill and slate quarry workshops.

More than half a million votes were cast in the final of the third series of the programme, which focused on rural buildings.
