Police have made a number of further arrests after a burglary during which an officer was stabbed with a crowbar.

A man and woman, both aged 43, and a 19-year-old woman were arrested in Coventry on Monday afternoon.

A 21-year-old man, also from Coventry, was arrested earlier in the day. All four are being held in Nuneaton, Warks.

Pc Peter Doherty, 34, of Nuneaton, underwent surgery to remove his spleen after the incident near a newsagents in Bedworth on 2 August.

Three men, aged 21, 23 and 27, have since admitted carrying out the burglary.

Craig King, Michael Joseph and Shane Stajsavlijevic, all from Coventry, also admitted being driven in a Lexus car which had been taken without the owner's consent.

They remain in custody and are to appear at Warwick Crown Court for sentencing on 8 September.

Pc Doherty returned home at the weekend and will face further interviews over the incident.
