Firefighters tackle old pub blaze

The fire started in the historic pub's thatched roof
Forty firefighters have tackled a blaze in the roof of a Warwickshire pub.

The thatched roof at the 16th Century White Lion, in Radford Semele near Leamington Spa, caught alight during Thursday afternoon.

A fire service spokesman said the roof had been totally destroyed and has fallen into the pub itself.

He said: "The crews worked brilliantly to keep the damage to the area of the thatch and below, preventing it spreading to the rear."

The spokesman added that parts of the roof had fallen inside the building while still alight and about 30% of the floor area has been damaged.
