Flood works may cause disruption
Residents of a Warwickshire town are to be consulted about works to prevent possible flooding to a river.

The Environment Agency wants to carry out flood protection work to the River Alne in Henley-in-Arden - an environmentally sensitive area.

Access routes will be created so heavy machinery can reach the river, which may cause disruption for residents.

An agency spokesman said an open day outlining the work is being arranged so discussions can take place.

Water levels

The spokesman added the work needed to take place as silt levels on the riverbed have risen, pushing up the water levels.

The agency wants to remove the silt as well as putting more stone by the river edge to stop it widening, and removing three of its weirs.

The river is home to several species of fish and the agency said it is taking measures to make sure wildlife is not affected.

The work will take place during the summer.
