Tunnel swathed in rainbow light
Newbold Tunnel
The lights create an optical illusion of a circle of light
A Warwickshire canal tunnel is being lit up by rainbow lights in a bid to attract more walkers and boaters.

Ten groups of red, blue and green floodlights have been installed in the Newbold Tunnel on the Oxford Canal, in Rugby, to create the effect.

The lights are being switched on as part of the town's Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, celebrations, but will remain for some months.

British Waterways and the borough council funded the 195,000 scheme.

The tunnel, a quarter of a mile long, is more than 180-years-old.

When the lights are switched on they will create an optical illusion of a full circle of light.

They will be switched on from morning until sunset throughout the winter months.
