Police officers were pelted with bottles and glasses in Coventry city centre after a football match.
They were attacked by a group of more than 70 men outside The Courtyard pub after Coventry City's home game with Leicester on Saturday.
A 20-year-old man was arrested and has since been released on police bail.
Last weekend five officers were injured in alcohol-related violence in the city centre when England played Wales.
Separate incidents in the early hours of 10 October led to 14 people being arrested and charged with disorder.
None of the injured officers were seriously hurt but some were subjected to racial abuse.
Sgt Phil Radbourne, of West Midlands Police, says he is worried about the frequency of football-related violence in Coventry.
He said: "This causes some concern. It's basically behaviour that will not be tolerated and we will be targeting individuals."
