Springer spaniel dies in Cornwall mine shaft fall

A dog has died after falling down a mine shaft in Cornwall.

Fire crews and two appliances, including a rescue tender, were called to Tuckingmill, Camborne, at about 1645 GMT on Sunday .

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said a firefighter was lowered into the shaft in "very confined and difficult conditions".

After reaching a depth of about 80ft (24m), he recovered the body of the springer spaniel.
