Town to get drop-in youth centre

 Street Pastors
The youth drop-in centre will be run in connection with the patrol scheme

A scheme where church-goers patrol the streets of a Cornish town to help people who are drunk, injured or homeless is to be extended.

The Street Pastor scheme, which began in Camborne last year, also operates in Newquay, Falmouth, St Austell and Truro as well as towns and cities in Devon.

A youth drop-in centre, part funded by police, will now run alongside the current service.

The number of volunteer street pastors in Camborne is also to be increased.

Under the scheme, which is a national initiative, teams of volunteers from local churches patrol town centres on weekend nights, supported by the police and councils.
