Location for 'eco-town' unveiled

Many of the new homes will be built at Baal Pit

Baal Pit and West Carclaze in Cornwall's clay country have been announced as the location for thousands of new homes.

The clay company Imerys is planning to build 2,000 homes there as part of a so-called eco-town.

The project will eventually involve properties being built at five separate locations in the St Austell area.

Imerys also revealed that the busy A391, which currently splits the two sites, would be re-routed.

Plans for a marina at Par docks were also confirmed.

Imerys said work could start in spring 2010 and it would take four decades to complete the developments.
