The family of Staff Sgt Olaf Schmid, who died as he tried to defuse a bomb in Helmand last month, pay tribute to him at a wreath laying ceremony in Truro.

Thousands of people have taken part in Remembrance Day parades and services across Devon and Cornwall.

Numerous events were staged to give locals a chance to pay tribute to those in the military who died in conflicts.

Two-minute silences were held at war memorials at 1100 GMT and were followed by wreath laying ceremonies.

The family of Truro-born Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid who was killed in Helmand on 31 October attended a service in the Cornish city and laid a wreath.

The 30-year-old, who was a bomb disposal expert, was part of the 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, based in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

He was responsible for making safe 64 roadside bombs since his tour in Afghanistan began in June but was killed as he tried to defuse his 65th.
