Padstow to get Christmas ice rink

Padstow will have an ice rink for the 2009 Christmas Festival

A temporary ice rink will be built in Padstow as part of the town's annual Christmas Festival.

The 18m x 16m rink will be built on the North Quay and will be covered to protect people from the elements.

The ice rink will be able to cater for up to 70 skaters during each 30 minute skating session.

Festival organisers are hoping to provide a park and ride service to prevent traffic congestion in the centre of the town.

Dave Flyde, from the Christmas Festival Committee, said: "A lot of people travel a fair distance to get to the Eden Project ice rink, so we're hopeful they'll come here.

"Skating and looking at the Christmas lights in the evening will be very nice."

It is hoped that the ice rink will be opened on the first weekend in December.
