Police station in demolition row

Truro Police Station
The city council argues the existing station is an "iconic building"

Plans to demolish and rebuild a police station in Truro have been challenged because the city council says it would result too many trees being lost.

Truro's existing station on Tregolls Road was built in the early 1970s.

The Devon and Cornwall Police Authority has applied to build a new command centre, office building and car park.

Members of Cornwall County Council are being recommended to defer and delegate the application until they receive more site access information.

Truro City Council has also argued that the existing station is considered an "iconic building" at the entrance to the city.

The police station is not a listed building.

Cornwall Council Highways is to provide the site access information.
