Injured surfer, 12, is airlifted

A young surfer has been airlifted to hospital from a north Devon beach after the fin of his surfboard badly slashed his thigh.

The 12-year-old, from Leicestershire, suffered a deep cut on his inner thigh while surfing at Croyde.

Rescue crews were concerned that the cut was near a major artery and called Devon Air Ambulance.

The air ambulance took the boy to North Devon District Hospital for further treatment.
