Prospective employees will be offered training before interviews

A meat processing company which announced 90 jobs were at risk in Cornwall last year, is now planning to recruit an additional 100 workers. Tulip Foods said it had avoided any job cuts through natural wastage, reorganising shifts, additional productivity and seeking new orders. Now a growing demand for its products means it needs to recruit more staff. The new posts will be across Tulip's three Cornish sites in Bodmin, Redruth and Bugle.
Tulip said it was very fortunate to be in a position to add to its permanent workforce, given the current economic conditions. The company has a staff of nearly 2,000 in Cornwall and is one of the county's major employers. Tulip spokesman Ken Wallace said: "This really is good news - there were no job losses and we now have an additional 100 new posts. "We're aware there have been a number of jobs lost elsewhere in Cornwall and we'd really like local people to take up these jobs." Cornwall College Business will support Tulip's recruitment through its Response to Redundancy programme by giving potential employees information about the production roles available and offering a four-day training programme prior to interviews. Cornwall Council is also holding a series of workshops providing information and advice on employment, redundancy, debt management, volunteering, health and lifestyle skills.
