The solid oak memorial has been reduced to a pile of logs

A man has been arrested in connection with a chainsaw attack on a hand-carved memorial at Upton Towans in Cornwall for a 21-year-old crash victim.

The solid oak bench dedicated to Unity Perkins, who died last September, took a craftsman nearly a year to complete.

It was put in place last Monday but a nature reserve warden found it vandalised three days later.

A 42-year-old man from Hayle has been arrested and released on bail. A chainsaw has also been recovered.

Police said the man was due to return to Camborne police station on 15 December.

Ms Perkins' parents said the the attack on the bench had "shocked and saddened" them.
