Cows rescued from farm slurry pit

Nearly 40 cows have been rescued from a slurry pit in Cornwall after a barn partly collapsed on Sunday night.

Fire crews from across the county were called to the farm at Jacobstow, near Bude, at about 2100 BST.

The incident happened when pillars in a barn with 200 cows inside gave way and 37 animals fell into the slurry.

A brigade spokesperson said about 50 firefighters worked with farm staff through the night to rescue the cows. It is believed all survived.
