Woman is killed in train incident

A 55-year-old woman has died after being hit by a train in west Cornwall.

Ambulance crews and police were called out shortly before 2200 BST on Friday following reports that a train had hit someone on the outskirts of Hayle.

The woman, who has not been named but is thought to have been local, was struck by the train in the Trevassick Hill area of Hayle.

British Transport Police said they were investigating the incident but it was not being treated as suspicious.

Train services were delayed for about two hours following the incident.

British Transport Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
