Pasty firm to take on 120 workers

A Cornish pasty firm is expecting to taking on 120 extra staff as part of its expansion.

Helston-based West Cornwall Pasty Company says sales have increased 25% this year and it is planning to open 14 more stores, taking its total to 70.

The business has more than doubled in size since it was acquired by private equity firm Gresham from the Cocking family in 2007.

The pasty is traditionally believed to have been invented by tin miners.

The company sells more than seven million pasties a year, and employs nearly 600 staff.

Many of them work in outlets at railway stations and tourist sites in London.
