Appeal to clear up marine litter

Litter postbox
Free hot drinks were given to people helping clean the beach

Local volunteers have helped an environmental campaign group clean up a Cornish beach.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) said Porthtowan beach, near St Agnes had been neglected over the winter.

It said large amounts of marine litter have been driven ashore by storms, ocean currents and strong winds.

A large postbox was put up on the beach for the litter and anything which can be identified will be sent back to the manufacturers.

It is part of the group's Return To Offender campaign, which calls on manufacturers to improve their anti-litter message.

Volunteers were given free hot drinks while they helped clean the beach.
