Cathedral gets 250K to fix spire

Truro Cathedral
The cathedral's stonework is being repaired in a 2m project

Truro Cathedral has been awarded 250,000 to help repair its spire.

The grant from English Heritage will contribute towards work on the Victoria Tower and the spire which will cost more than 2m.

The money, part of a 2.6m handout to 23 cathedrals across England, has been welcomed by the Truro Diocese.

It said the stonework at the top of the spire was deteriorating "quite markedly" and there was a risk bits could fall off it was not repaired.
