Cathedral gets £250K to fix spire

Truro Cathedral
The cathedral's stonework is being repaired in a £2m project

Truro Cathedral has been awarded £250,000 to help repair its spire.

The grant from English Heritage will contribute towards work on the Victoria Tower and the spire which will cost more than £2m.

The money, part of a £2.6m handout to 23 cathedrals across England, has been welcomed by the Truro Diocese.

It said the stonework at the top of the spire was deteriorating "quite markedly" and there was a risk bits could fall off it was not repaired.
