Five-vehicle pile up closes road

Motorists faced lengthy delays during rush hour when the A38 at Tideford in Cornwall was closed in both directions following a five-vehicle crash.

Police were called to the accident, which is thought to have been caused by icy road conditions, at about 0640 GMT.

Firefighters helped to release people trapped in their vehicles. No-one is thought to have been seriously injured.

The vehicles involved included a BMW 318, a Ford Transit van, a Vauxhall Astra and a Peugeot 206.
