Three arrested over hotel death

The hotel was closed for two weeks after the gas leak

Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man in a hotel in Newquay in Cornwall.

Frederick William Jackson, 52, from the Llanelli area of Carmarthenshire, died from carbon monoxide poisoning at the Great Western Hotel in April.

More than 110 people were moved out of the hotel. It was closed for two weeks.

Police said the three were arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. They have been released on bail until 21 January.

It was thought Mr Jackson had suffered a heart attack, but high levels of gas were found after paramedics at the scene became unwell.

The building was ventilated and the heating system shut down after 95 guests and 12 staff were moved from the hotel.
