The watchdog ranked Cornwall services in the top 50 out of 152

Cornwall has been rated in the top 50 best-performing areas in England for out-of-hours doctors' services and accident and emergency treatment.

The Healthcare Commission ranked the Cornwall and Isles Of Scilly Primary Care Trust as joint forty-second best-performing trust out of 152 nationwide.

The commission assessed urgent and emergency care, including ambulance services, A&E and out-of-hours GPs.

Plymouth and the rest of Devon were also ranked as best performing trusts.

Cornwall and Isles Of Scilly Primary Care Trust was one of nine PCTs in joint forty-second position.

Overall, the Healthcare Commission judged 33% of PCT areas as best performing, 27% better performing, 22% fair performing and 18% least well performing.

Fair and least well performing meant the trust areas were not hitting targets or standards where they were in place.
