River plunge victim, 5, is named

River Stratt
Abbi was swept downstream by the fast-flowing river

A young girl who died after falling into a swollen river in Cornwall has been named as Abigail Lisa Pattinson.

A major search began when Abbi fell into the River Stratt at Stratton, near Bude, on Wednesday.

The five-year-old, from Pyworthy, Holsworthy, Devon, had been out walking the dog with her family when the accident happened.

She was pulled from the river after a two-hour search and flown to hospital in Plymouth, where she died.

The river was fast-flowing after heavy rain in the area and rescuers said conditions had been difficult.

An investigation is under way and the coroner has been informed.
