River searched for missing girl

A major search is under way for a five-year-old girl who is missing in north Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the alarm was raised at about 1240 BST after reports that the girl may have fallen into the river at Stratton.

Coastguard rescue teams from Bude and Boscastle are involved in the search, along with a police helicopter and an RAF helicopter from RMB Chivenor.

It is not known whether the girl is local to the area or on holiday.

The rivers Neet and Stratt converge just outside Stratton.

Ronnie Jones from the Environment Agency said the area is currently on flood watch, but water levels are receding.

He said there had been about 30mm (1.2in) of rain in the area in the past 24 hours and the rivers are currently fast flowing.
