Van buried during town landslip

The area was cornoned off after the landslip

Tonnes of earth and rubble have fallen and a van has been buried in a landslide in a town in Cornwall.

The landslip occurred at a bungalow in Looe at the western end of the town's bridge.

A corner of the building was damaged. An area of garden and part of a retaining wall belonging to a neighbouring guest house also fell.

The parked van, believed to belong to a local builder, was completely buried. No-one was hurt.

People woken

The area was been cordoned off and warning signs put in place to warn people to keep away after the landslide about 0700 BST on Tuesday.

The Tuesday incident was the second in front of the guesthouse. A smaller, initial slide occurred during lunchtime on Monday.

The Tuesday slippage was loud enough to wake people in nearby properties.

There were several secondary smaller slippages at the site later in the morning.

Traffic in the town was unaffected.
