The offshore patrol vessel HMS Tyne is coordinating the search

A search for a man who fell overboard from a French fishing vessel has been called off.

The alarm was raised at 1900 BST on Wednesday when the 25-year-old crewman of the Tourmalet was reported missing 60 miles north west of the Scillies.

Falmouth Coastguards said the Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel HMS Tyne co-ordinated the search involving five fishing vessels.

Falmouth Coastguard say the chances of him being found alive are slim.

The 34-metre (112ft) Tourmalet usually has a crew of seven.
