Ferry in dry dock for maintenance

Torpoint ferry
The chain-operated ferries carry about two million vehicles a year

Passengers and Bank Holiday visitors have been warned they face possible delays to the Torpoint ferry services.

One of the ferries, which cross the River Tamar between Devon and Cornwall, has been taken out of service for its annual maintenance inspection.

The work will be carried out in dry docks at A&P Falmouth and is expected to take about four weeks.

With the reduction to two ferries, crossings will be reduced to a 15-minute service until the end of May.

The crossing is the busiest vehicular ferry route across an estuary in the UK and the three chain ferries carry about two million vehicles a year.
