World War II mines found on beach

The mines were found among the rocks and sand
Two World War II mines have been discovered on a Cornish beach.

Police said there was no immediate danger, but have advised people to stay away from the privately-owned Lusty Glaze beach, near Newquay.

Coastguards alerted the authorities after the ordinance was found at the north end of the beach at low tide.

The incoming tide later recovered the mines, which will now be dealt with by bomb disposal experts on Friday morning at low water.

A spokesman from Falmouth Coastguard said it appears likely recent stormy weather has led to the mines being exposed by waves scouring away the sand.
