Tribute to Penhallow fire victim
Joan Harper
Joan Harper would have celebrated her 81st birthday last Monday
The family of a woman who died in a fire at the Penhallow Hotel in Cornwall has spoken about the love they felt for her.

Joan Harper, 80, died along with Peter Hughes, 43, and his elderly mother Monica in the early hours of Saturday 18 August.

Ms Harper's niece described her as a "fiercely independent woman" and a "fanatic Daniel O'Donnell fan."

More than 80 people escaped from the blaze - many had to jump from windows.

An inquest in Truro on Friday accepted evidence which identified Joan Harper, who was from Stoke on Trent.

A tribute from her niece Susan Harper said she would always be remembered for the "fantastic times" they spent together.

Susan Harper added: " It's impossible to use words to describe how we all feel at this very sad time, but we are working to help each other and we want to thank all our friends for their support."

More than 100 people, including members of Joan Harper's family, went to a special memorial service at St Michael's parish church in Newquay.
