Traffic has begun using a new four-mile stretch of dual carriageway across Goss Moor in Cornwall which opened earlier.
The road between Indian Queens and Victoria bypasses the notorious accident blackspot at the Iron Bridge.
The Highways Agency said the remainder of the £93m route should be completed by the end of July.
The road, which has been built to alleviate a major traffic bottleneck in the county has been welcomed by drivers and residents.
Fish merchant Robert Wing uses the A30 for his business.

"This is my first time on the new road and I think it's tremendously exciting," he told BBC News.
"It's great news for Cornwall and we can now finally put to bed the continuous problems we've faced as a county."
Brian Dunsmore, who lives next to the old road, has also celebrated the opening of the bypass.
"It's so peaceful and quiet that I'm having second thoughts about selling because it's going to be a lovely place to live now.
"You can't hear any major traffic or lorries and that's exactly how it should be."
The new road has been diverted north of Goss Moor to protect sensitive wildlife habitats.
