Pupils vote for Morrison at Brits
James Morrison
Morrison is a great musician said his former schoolteacher
Pupils at singer James Morrison's former school are hoping he triumphs at the Brit awards.

The 22-year-old is up for three gongs on Wednesday night, including best British male solo artist.

Morrison left Trevilgas Community College in Newquay with only a U grade in his music A-level, but his teacher said the exam was classics dominated.

Steve Mildenhall said: "He's a rocker and he's a good rocker. A-level music was not for him."

He said Morrison's inspiration came from soul singers, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

He said: "He's a really great musician.

"He took it and made his own style and it was very apparent in his band."

It's a real pleasure to see him do well
Helen Matheson
Head teacher Helen Matheson said: "He was a lovely boy, very very pleasant, charming and all-round good person.

"It's a real pleasure to see him do well."

Many pupils have tickets for Morrison's homecoming show at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro.

Pupil Bryony said: "He's inspirational.

"Its' really nice that he writes his own music rather than copying everyone else."
