£3m bypass idea for 'hazard' road
People who use a main road in Cornwall are being asked for their views on possible improvements to a section considered to be an accident hazard.

The county council is considering a £3m bypass for the A394 at Trewennack, between Helston and Falmouth.

After a relatively straight section leaving the Penryn roundabout, it narrows around a series of tight curves just before Helston.

The road is used by about 10,500 cars a day.

If after consultation the proposals are approved, the scheme will be considered for inclusion in Cornwall's next Local Transport Plan which will look at the county's roads from 2011 to 2016.

But if the scheme were to get the go-ahead it would be subject to planning approval and funding, taking at least four years.

The council said: "The A394 is one of the county's strategic routes and part of the primary route network.

"The road through Trewennack is a particularly difficult unimproved section of the route along which collisions continue to occur."
