A Cornishman has revealed that he managed to lose 16 stone (101kg) in a year on a diet of Oxo cubes.

Stonemason Steve Kay, from St Breward, was 31 stone (196kg) before he started his diet in August last year.

He swapped pasties for bowls of Oxo broth every breakfast, topped up with more Oxo drinks, as well as vegetables and fruit.

The father-of-three lost 5lb a week in the diet during which he shed 2ft from his waist, dropping from 60in to 36in.

He said: "It was my own idea.

"My granddad used to drink Oxo broth. The stock cubes are low in calories so I used to have them every morning and in drinks during the day."

Mr Kay said cutting out his beloved pasties and cheese was the hardest part.

He said: "It was tough, but I had a lot of vegetables too and a lot of exercise."

An Oxo spokesman said: "We congratulate him."
