£4m city relief road work begins
Work has begun on a new £4m relief road in east Devon.

The Monkerton Link will ease congestion around Sowton and Exeter business parks by providing a link between junction 29 of the M5 and Pinhoe.

The 1km (0.62 mile) long road will run from Ambassador Drive park to Pinhoe Road and include cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings.

Devon County Council said it would help traffic problems in an area feeling the pressure of extra traffic.

Council executive member for environment Margaret Rogers said: "This new link road will provide much needed relief for an area which is feeling the pressure of extra traffic, particularly with the rapid economic growth we have seen to the east of Exeter."

The road is due to open in late autumn.
