Playing Place wants place to play
Residents of a Cornish village called Playing Place have launched an appeal to raise £40,000 for a play area.

Local people fear a child may be killed playing in the streets and 300 have signed a petition for the pitch.

The money would be spent on a combined football and basketball pitch in the village near Truro.

The mid-Cornwall village gets its name from the Cornish, Plen an Gwary, and was once the site of a medieval open-air theatre.

'Atrocious' condition

The site for the new playground is on land which was given to the parish council many years ago.

It has been used as a playing area, but has fallen into disrepair.

Parish councillor Mark Woolcock, said: "You cannot play any sports there because the condition of the soil is atrocious.

"During the winter children play football in the streets and I am worried they may be hit by a speeding car."
